Community Service Project 2016

We are excited to have you join the College of Charleston Class of 2020.  As College of Charleston student, you also become part of the community of Charleston, SC.  At CofC, we feel it is important to give back to our community and that starts at orientation.

For the summer 2016 and January 2017 orientation program, we will be facilitating a school supply drive.  At each orientation session, we will collect school supplies from students and families to help the teachers in our communities. All supplies will then be donated to the local organization, Teachers' Supply Closet.  We also invite our faculty and staff on campus to participate.

We are proud that 16,645 items were donated by the College of Charleston Class of 2019, CofC families, current CofC students, faculty and staff in the summer and fall of 2015.  We are challenging the Class of 2020 to beat that number!!

There are over 16,4000,000 Children Living in Poverty in the US.

That is more than 1 in 5 children. They may not have access to even the most basic of school supplies. A backpack filled with the tools they need to succeed can change their life.

Why "School Supplies.  Changing Lives?"

Results and research show that when adequately equipped, school children:

  • have a more positive feeling of self-worth;
  • miss fewer days of school;
  • are more attentive in class;
  • have improved classroom behavior, and
  • achieve higher test scores in all academic subjects.
