Family Members

The College of Charleston welcomes parents and the families of our students. We offer at two-day family orientation program during each of the student orientation sessions.

During the Family Orientation Program, there are information sessions designed especially for family members, as well as sessions that families may attend with their students. However, because of space limitations and other concerns, several of the student sessions such as academic advising and registration must be attended by students only.

Topics of family orientation sessions include

  • Student Health Services
  • Campus Tours
  • College Bookstore
  • Academic Advising and Planning Center
  • Dining Services
  • Center for Student Learning
  • Treasurer's Office
  • Center for International Education
  • Counseling Center
  • Financial Aid Information
  • Career Center
  • Small group discussions with faculty and staff
  • Campus Housing
  • Residence Life and Housing

When your student registers for orientation, they can register the number of family members that will attend the family orientation program during their orientation session.  The cost is $35 per family member (12 years and older) and the cost is due with the student's tuition before the semester begins.

After your student registers for orientation, check out the new student checklist for their next steps.

If you have questions, e-mail or call the Office of New Student Programs at 843.953.2017 or email orientat@cofc.edu. The office is open Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00pm EST.

Community Service Project

We are excited to have you join the College of Charleston. As College of Charleston student, you also become part of the community of Charleston, S.C. At CofC, we feel it is important to give back to our community and that starts at orientation.

For the upcoming orientation sessions, we are asking for donations for the College of Charleston food pantry - the Cougar Pantry.  As a result of a student-driven initiative to help students who face food insecurity, the College has set up a food pantry. Any College of Charleston student in need can get dry goods and hygiene products at no cost.

We have the goal of donating a total of 1,000 items!

We encourage all students and families to help us reach our goal by donating needed items. If you do not want to purchase items ahead of time, you may visit the Walgreens and the CVS within walking distance of campus. You can also drop them off at check in or at the New Student programs office (No. 4 on the campus map).

Monetary donations can be made here. To make a contribution to a fund not listed in the designation drop-down menu below, select “other" and type in the fund of your choice in the text box.
