Transfer Students

orientation transfer students

We recognize you have experience as a college student, but every institution is different. New Student Programs is here to help you transition to the College of Charleston.  We have scheduled a number of orientation sessions that will help all new College of Charleston students make a smooth transition to the College.

All new students are considered undeclared when they enter the College of Charleston. In order to declare their major, students must log into MyCharleston and access the "program of study management" (POSM) channel on the "academic services" tab. Some departments may have additional requirements beyond the POSM request process. Students must respond to requests from these departments in a timely manner or their POSM request will be denied.

Students who will be attending orientation in June or July can either stay on-campus in one of our residence halls or book a room in one of the many hotels in the Charleston area.  Family on-campus housing is not available.

Please note that registering for orientation does not automatically reserve an on-campus room for you.

Note:  Staying on-campus during orientation is an option that is only available to students who attend the June and July sessions.

After registering for orientation, check out the new student checklist for your next steps.

Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS)

If you have been accepted into the Bachelor of Professional Studies program, you will attend a special orientation. You do not have to complete the registration form for regular orientation. The BPS program staff will send you information regarding the orientation in the summer.

Bachelor of General Studies (BGS)

If you are interested in the Bachelor of General Studies, please indicate that on your orientation registration form. The BGS program staff will reach out to you regarding the program. If you are a transfer student, the BGS program staff will advise you during your orientation session.

Community Service Project

We are excited to have you join the College of Charleston. As College of Charleston student, you also become part of the community of Charleston, S.C. At CofC, we feel it is important to give back to our community and that starts at orientation.

For the upcoming orientation sessions, we are asking for donations for the College of Charleston food pantry - the Cougar Pantry.  As a result of a student-driven initiative to help students who face food insecurity, the College has set up a food pantry. Any College of Charleston student in need can get dry goods and hygiene products at no cost.

We have the goal of donating a total of 1,000 items!

We encourage all students and families to help us reach our goal by donating needed items. If you do not want to purchase items ahead of time, you may visit the Walgreens and the CVS within walking distance of campus. You can also drop them off at check in or at the New Student programs office (No. 4 on the campus map).

Monetary donations can be made here. To make a contribution to a fund not listed in the designation drop-down menu below, select “other" and type in the fund of your choice in the text box.
